Powell Eyed

EQUITIES

The major regional equity markets operated in mixed territory during Asia-Pac hours, after the S&P 500 and NASDAQ edged higher during Tuesday's Wall St. session.

  • Participants were happy to sit on the sidelines given the lack of macro news flow and incoming risk events, namely Fed Chair Powell's Wednesday address.
  • The ASX 200 was the exception, underperforming its major regional counterparts. Here, the utilities sector was the major laggard, with disappointing guidance from APA weighing.
  • Nikkei 225 -0.2%, Hang Seng +0.1%, CSI 300 +0.1%, ASX 200 -1.0%.
  • S&P 500 futures unch., DJIA futures -30, NASDAQ 100 futures +19.
