POWER: Danish Balancing Cost to Rise by 150% by 2040
POWER
Danish Energinet projects a 150% rise in the cost of system services by 2040 driven by the need to stabilise the grid due to the increasingly variable power supply from wind and solar, it said today.
- By 2030, Denmark’s heavy reliance on renewables will challenge grid stability, Energinet added.
- And the shift to wind and solar alongside fewer stable power plants complicates balancing energy supply with demand.
Energinet calls for flexible electricity sources and consumers as the system services market still has capacity, with opportunities to earn revenue by ensuring grid balance.
