POWER: Estonia Submits Draft Changes to Electricity Market Laws

POWER

The Estonian Climate Ministry has submitted its draft amendment to its Electricity Market Act, planning to increase investment security in power storage, managing consumption and supporting flexibility services, it said, cited by BNS.

  • The amendment will allow for power storage plans to be exempt from double fees, which will allow for developers to save millions of euros depending on the size.
  • Additionally, amendments will ensure that consumers will not be charged for self-produced electricity consumption, with consumption and production balanced every 15 minutes.
  • The changes will also remove the obligation for smaller network operators to develop long-term network development plans.
  • If approved, all these amendments are expected to be applied by the beginning of 2027.
