Former Danish climate minister Dan Jorgensen is expected to be confirmed later in November as the EU’s energy and housing commissioner, after receiving approval from the joint hearing committee on Monday according to Argus. 

  • Jorgensen presented his plan for affordable energy, a roadmap to end Russian energy imports, a clean investment plan and an electrification action plan during the hearing.
  • He also stressed the importance of lower energy prices in the region by utilising nuclear energy, among other things.
  • Jorgensen did not give details on when to end Russian energy imports nor did he give a percentage share for the 2040 renewable energy target.
  • He further does not seek fundamentals changes to the bloc’s electricity market rules but plans to properly implement them.
