French spot power is expected to be broadly stable on the day with higher wind and solar weighed against higher demand and lower nuclear availability. 

  • France Base Power DEC 24 closed down 1.7% at 95.9 EUR/MWh on 27 Nov.
  • France Power Qtr 1Q25 closed down 1.4% at 102.13 EUR/MWh on 27 Nov.
  • EUA DEC 24 down 0.1% at 68.39 EUR/MT
  • TTF Gas DEC 24 down 0.8% at 46.375 EUR/MWh
  • Nuclear availability in France declined to 82% of capacity as of Thursday morning, down from 85% on Wednesday, RTE data showed, cited by Reuters.
  • The unplanned outage at 915MW St Laurent 2 has been extended 29 November 11:30CET, after which the reactor will ramp up. The 1.31GW Nogent 2 reactor had an unplanned outage on Wednesday morning and is scheduled to return on Thursday 12:00CET, after which it will ramp up output until 1 December.
  • The latest 6-10 day ECMWF weather forecast for Paris suggested mean temperatures are still forecast mostly above normal in December, although revised slightly lower on the day.
  • Mean temperatures in Paris are forecast to fall to 3.8C on Friday, down from 6.7C on Thursday and below the seasonal average of 6.1C.
  • Power demand in France is forecast rise to 60.71GW on Friday, up from 58.41GW on Thursday according to Bloomberg.
  • Wind output in France is forecast to rise to 4.88GW during base load on Friday, up from 2.27GW forecasted for Thursday. Solar PV output is forecast to rise to 4.89GW during peak load on Friday, up from 1.64GW forecasted for Thursday according to SpotRenewables.
  • France’s hydro balance has been revised lower on the day to end at 1.1TWh on 12 December, compared with 1.13TWh forecasted a day earlier.
