POWER: German Day-Ahead Negative Prices More Than Doubled YoY in YtD

Negative day-ahead price occurrences in Germany more than doubled in the January-August period this year to 373, compared with 166 in the same period last year according to ICIS. 

  • Especially April, May, June and August saw an increase in negative prices, amid higher solar PV output and lower demand in April and May.
  • On a daily level, negative prices become more frequent, except for Monday, with most negative price occurrences during weekends.
