Power Line To Chernobyl NPP Cut, Disconnected From National Grid

UKRAINE

Wires and social media carrying comments attributed to Ukraine's state nuclear plants operator Energoatom. Says that the 750W power line between Kyiv and the Chernobyl nuclear power plant has been severed, withthe plant disconnected from the national grid.

  • Late on 8 March the IAEA stated that it had stopped receiving data from the system monitoring nuclear material at radioactive waste facilities at Chernobyl.
  • A lack of power at the Chernobyl plant could prevent the cooling of spent nuclear fuel, which in turn risks radioactive substances being sent into the air.
  • Energoatom says that ongoing fighting makes it impossible to carry out the requisite repairs.
