POWER: Poland Hopes EC Will Approve Financing for Nuclear Plant by Year End

POWER

Poland’s Energy Ministry hopes the EC will initiate proceedings on the financing model for the country’s first nuclear power plant by year-end, a crucial step toward launching construction in 2026, Plenipotentiary for Energy Infrastructure, Wojeciej Wrochna said, cited by ISB News.

  • “We need to build a model for its financing as soon as possible, and this requires the consent of the EC," said Wrochna
  • The financing model will focus on minimising electricity costs per megawatt-hour and will be divided into 30% equity and 70% debt.
  • Construction will begin in 2026, with the first concrete pour scheduled in 2028 and operational by 2033 – capacity will be between 1-1.6GW.
  • Subsequent units to follow every 2–3 years, with the total capacity aimed between 6-9GW.
