Poland’s PGE is planning to decommission the 900MW Rybnik coal-fired plant earlier than expected, Jacek Kaczorowski, President of PGE said in a letter to the government, cited by Money PL.

  • Power generation from the plant will stop at the end of 2025, while district heating generation will be halted from August 2026.
  • PGE is considering adding the facility to the planned power reserve.
  • Units 1-4 at the plants have been previously decommissioned and replaced with new gas-stream units with a capacity of 882MW which are scheduled to be operational end-2026.
