RENEWABLES: Poland Ups Renewable Target, Lowers Coal Share In Updated NECP

Poland is targeting 59% renewable electricity in its mix by 2030 in its “active transformation” NECP draft, up from 43% in its 2023 plan, with the share of coal in the mix dropping to 21% from 47% last year, the Ministry of Energy said, cited by ISB News.

  • Gas and hydrogen share is expected to rise to 12% from 6% by 2030.
  • Additionally, Poland is aiming to cut emissions by 50.4% by 2030 and 70% by 2040.
  • The plan is also estimated to reduce electricity generation prices by 13% by 2030 and by 33% by 2040.
  • The ministry anticipates the NECP to be adopted at the turn of the year as it will enter the consultation phase for a few months.
