POWER: RWE Executive Says UK Energy Targets Not Feasible

POWER

The UK’s targets to decarbonise the energy grid by 2030 is unrealistic, RWE senior executive Adam Ezzamel said, cited by the Telegraph.

  • “The biggest problem I have with it is the date attached to it. I think it is just not feasible, certainly in the offshore space,” Ezzamel said.
  • “I would say it’s great to have a plan. It’s great to be ambitious, but I think we need to be a bit more grounded in realism, in terms of the delivery date”, he added.
  • One of the issues Ezzamel cited was the supply chain capacity, while a rushed goal could cause spiking prices, amongst other issues.
  • His remarks followed comments from the Energy Industry Councial and the GMB Union, calling the plans unachievable.
  • Earlier this month, the IEA chief called the UK’s plans ambitious but doable.
