US Heating Demand Seen 51 CDD Below Normal This Week

US heating demand for the week ending Dec. 28 is forecast to be 51 heating degree days (HDD) below the long-term normal, according to Bloomberg, citing the NOAA.
- The regions with the largest deviation from the normal are the, E N Central 96 HDD below average, W S Central, 85 HDD below average, and Mountain 65 HDD below average.
- In terms of states with the greatest deviations, Nebraska is forecast to be 138 HDD below average, followed by Minnesota at 137 HDD below normal and Iowa at 131 HDD below average.
- This week’s total forecast for HDD is 147, compared to a normal of 198 and down from the actual figure of 155 from last week.
- During the week to Dec. 21, the US was 34 HDD below normal.
- Heating degree days measure energy demand to heat buildings. It is the number of degrees that the mean daily temperature is below a 65-degree Fahrenheit base. Greater numbers mean colder temperatures.
