POWER: UK to Tender £2bn SMR Contracts in 2025, Four Firms Shortlisted by GBN

The UK government will tender nearly £2bn in contracts for its first SMRs between Feb-July 2025, with four shortlisted companies vying for the energy projects, Great British Nuclear (GBN) announced, cited by the Telegraph.
- The largest opportunities include two £800mn “delivery partner” contracts to manage SMR construction over 10 years.
- Smaller contracts for an “owner’s engineer”, “foundation project management” and “foundation engineering” will also be open to bidding.
- GE Hitachi, Holtec, Rolls-Royce SMR, and Westinghouse have been shortlisted following two rounds of assessments by GBN.
- Additionally, GBN plans to open bidding in 2028 for SMR construction contracts worth up to £200m each, with projects set to run from 2030 to 2035.
