POWER: Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant to Remain Shutdown During War

All six reactors at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant will remain in a state of cold shutdown for the duration of the war, IAEA General Rafael Mariano Grossi said.

  • “In line with the agency’s advice, it is understood that no reactor will be re-started as long as the conflict continues to jeopardize the nuclear safety and security of the plant,” Grossi said.
  • A fire erupted on one of the plant’s cooling towers on 11 August that may require the structure to be demolished, he said.
  • The nuclear power plant has been occupied by Russia since early March 2022.
