CZECHIA
  • This morning, economic data showed that PPI inflation accelerated to 28.5% in June (vs. 28.8% exp.), up from 27.9% the previous month.
  • Data on consumer and business confidence surveys will come out next week on July 25.
  • The collapse in consumer surveys due to the elevated inflationary pressures has also been pricing in a significant deterioration in the economic outlook.
  • The chart below shows that consumer confidence has strongly led industrial production by 6 months in the past two decades and is also pricing in a sharp deceleration in the economic activity.
  • Czech Republic is ramping up natural-gas reserves and has secured shipments from new suppliers to mitigate the mounting risk that Russia will not restart a key European pipeline before winter. Over the past few months, the Czech Republic has been filling up its gas storage facilities, which are now about 77% full, according to Sikela (BBG).
