Prayuth Won't Run As UTN's List-MP Candidate-Bangkok Post

The Bangkok Post reports that Thailand's Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha will not contest the upcoming election as a list-MP candidate for the United Thai Nation (UTN) party, which fielded him as its first candidate for Prime Minister.

  • The daily cites a party source as noting that party leader Pirapan Salirathavibhaga will take the first party-list spot and will be followed by Secretary General Akanat Promphan.
  • The newspaper reports that Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin could contest the election under the party list system, making space for his sister-in-law to run in his traditional constituency, pushing some other UTN candidates down the list.
