Pres. Moon's Approval Rating Falls To Lowest Level Ever

SOUTH KOREA

The approval rating for South Korean President Moon Jae-in has fallen to its lowest level since he assumed office in 2017 according to the latest poll from Gallup Korea.

  • President Moon Jae-in (DPK, Liberal) Approval rating: Approve: 29% (-1), Disapprove: 60%, Don't know: 11% (+2). +/- vs. 20-22 Apr. Fieldwork: 27-29 Apr. Sample size: 1,000.
  • Despite Moon's low approval, his centrist Democratic Party of Korea remains the most popular political party in the country according to the Gallup poll:
    • Party Support: DPK (Liberal): 33% (+1) People Power Party (Conservative): 28%, People Party (Centrist): 4%, Justice Party (Centre-left): 4% (-1), Open Democratic Party (Liberal): 2%, No support: 27% (-1). +/- vs. 20-22 Apr. Fieldwork: 27-29 Apr. Sample size: 1,000.
  • The next presidential election is 10 months away in March 2022, but at this stage it remains far too early to project a likely winner or even the candidates for the main parties. Moon cannot run again with South Korean presidents limited to a single five year term in office.
