US
US: Pres Trump gets better news from the Supreme Court as it blocks Congress's
access to Trump's financial records for now.
- It appears in both of the cases ruled on today, the Supreme Court has kicked
it back to lower courts. So could be tied up for a while.
- In Mazars, the case involving the House subpoena of financial records, a 7-2
ruling: "The courts below did not take adequate account of the signficant
separation of powers concerns implicated by congressional subpoenas for the
President's information." In the NY case, Vance, "we agree that this case will
be remanded to the District Court."
- From SCOTUSblog: "The Court has vacated the decisions below in Mazars, and it
holds that congressional subpoenas may be enforceable but that the courts below
did not take account of all the possible separation of powers concerns. The case
will this go on. So this issue is back in the hands of the DC and Second
Circuits for now."
- Markets reacted negatively as it suggests heightened political drama ahead of
the November election.
