President Biden To Tout "Bidenomics" Amid Persistent Voter Skepticism

US

13:00 ET 18:00 BST: President Biden will deliver another speech on his “Bidenomics” agenda amid sceptical polling data on his economic performance.

  • A new Monmouth University survey finds that, “Only 3 in 10 Americans feel the country is doing a better job recovering economically than the rest of the world since the pandemic.” The survey also finds that only 34% of Americans approve of his handling of inflation.
  • Patrick Murray at Monmouth said: “The president has been touting ‘Bidenomics,’ but... Americans are just not giving him a lot of credit when it comes to the economy.”
  • A White House spokesperson said: “Polls don’t tell the full story," but the numbers are ominous for Biden. According to Bloomberg sources, “White House officials started to panic about a month ago that Americans were not giving President Joe Biden credit for his economic achievements.”
  • Mark Zandi at Moody’s Analytics notes one of the key problems for Biden - the US economy is unlikely to receive a boost from the infrastructure law, Inflation Reduction Act and CHIPS Act until 2026.
