President Calls Party Leaders To Gauge Mood Ahead Of Vote On Draghi Gov't

Italy's ANSA reporting that President Sergio Mattarella is holding calls with leaders of political parties in order to gauge their mood ahead of the confidence vote in the gov't of PM Mario Draghi later this evening.

  • Potential impasse in that Draghi has the condition that all parties of gov't, including the populist 5-Star Movement (M5S) vote in favour of the gov't. However, right-wing populist League and centre-right Forza Italia supposedly demanding that either M5S is removed from gov't or they will seek early elections.
  • Vote expected around 1845CET (1245ET, 1745BST).
