ASIA: President Donald Trump tweets: "We have informed both India and China that
the United States is ready, willing and able to mediate or arbitrate their now
raging border dispute. Thank you!"
- Tensions between China and India have escalated in recent days following
clashes between troops from both side of the country's Himalayan border. 
- The contested border along the 'Line of Actual Control' has been the source of
sporadic tension between the two sides for decades, with periodic flare-ups in
tensions.  
- Usually these do not escalate into anything more than a war of words. However,
given China's increasing presence in neighbouring Pakistan via its belt-and-road
initiative (seen by Delhi as China's attempt to dominate Asia) and India's
consolidation of its control of Kashmir in recent months (which has seen Indian
troops flood into the region that includes the Sino-Indian border) there are
concerns that the border dispute could become a 'hot' rather than 'frozen'
conflict.
