CZECHIA: President Pavel Calls For Increased Military Spending

CZECHIA
  • President Petr Pavel said that the changing security situation in Europe necessitates increased investment in defence. In his view, Czechia would need to boost its defence spending to 3% of GDP if it was to bring its army to combat-ready state. Meanwhile, according to the retired army general, keeping this figure below 2% of GDP would mean a resignation from defending the country. Pavel also said that NATO should change its approach and should set different multi-year goals for each of its member states.
  • Industry and Trade Minister Lukas Vlcek will speak about the latest developments in the planned development of the Dukovany nuclear power plant during a press conference at 10:30GMT/11:30CET.
