President To Summarise His Consultations With Party Representatives

POLAND
  • President Andrzej Duda will deliver a statement at 11:00BST/12:00CEST after concluding his consultations with representatives of all parties which won seats in the new parliament. His chief aide Marcin Mastalerek said this morning that the President has not yet decided who will get the first chance to form government and is unlikely to unveil the name of his nominee today, but may provide a timeline for next steps. Meanwhile, opposition politicians used the latest round of interviews to ramp up pressure on the President to allow Civic Coalition's Donald Tusk to become Prime Minister, given that he has the backing of a clear parliamentary majority.
  • DGP reported that Law and Justice (PiS) decided not to challenge election results. Separately, Rzeczpospolita reported that PiS has prepared an offer for selected factions of the centre-right Third Way. The offer will stand for the entirety of the upcoming parliamentary term, with PiS hoping to leverage tensions in the incoming ruling coalition.
  • For the record, plenty of reports surrounding the candidacies for different posts in the incoming Cabinet keep doing the rounds in local media, but some of the leaks may be part of the negotiating strategy of parties involved.
  • NBP's Joanna Tyrowicz told Biznes24 that a short-term forecast prepared by central bank staff suggests that inflation will accelerate in November and December after the recent temporary slowdown.
  • Financial markets regulator KNF said that Poland will postpone the transition to a new benchmark interest rate WIRON from WIBOR until 2027 after identifying risks associated with faster transition.
