Presidential Office Deny Speculation Of Castillo Resignation

  • The Presidency of the Republic on Sunday denied recent speculation circulating on social media about a possible or upcoming resignation from office by President Pedro Castillo.
    • In a statement, the Presidential Office affirmed that the top official will continue with his work schedule, as he did on Sunday.
  • From Friday - Peru’s congress plans to pass a bill vetoed by President Pedro Castillo to return around 42 billion soles ($11.2 billion) to workers who contributed to a defunct housing fund, opposition lawmaker Carlos Anderson said in an interview.
    • Anderson says he will propose a pension reform bill in congress.
    • “The entire pension system has to be rethought. There are all kinds of conflicts of interest, the pension fund management companies are shielded, they run no risk”.
    • Anderson added it is going to be “difficult” for congress to grant a vote of confidence to the new cabinet of ministers given the perception among lawmakers of Prime Minister Anibal Torres as being “confrontational”.
