Prime Minister Marin Passes Drug Test

The government of Finland has released a statement saying that Prime Minister Sanna Marin has passed a drug test administered after a video of her dancing at a party went viral last week, prompting questions from political opponents about her suitability for office.

  • Government statement: "The drug test taken from Prime Minister Sanna Marin on August 19, 2022 has not found any drugs."
  • The statement also confirms that Marin covered the cost of the test.
  • In a press conference on Friday, Marin admitted to drinking but claimed to have never taken drugs, and said she remained in an appropriate condition to, “lead the country.”
  • In December last year, Marin was criticised for visiting a nightclub after being in close contact with a colleague who tested positive for COVID-19. Despite not contravening Finnish Covid policy, Marin issued an apology: "I am very sorry for not understanding that I needed to do that [isolate]."
