SECURITY

The prospect of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action talks resuming have been given a boost today after the UK's chief diplomat at the talks, Stephanie al-Qaq, tweeted of the successful conclusion of security talks with Israel.

  • Stephanie al-Qaq: 'Intensive two-days of discussions with Israel on Iran and the region. Prospects for the JCPoA, comparing notes on Iran’s nuclear programme, and wider regional activity. Meetings with NSA Hulata, PD Alon Bar, DDG Josh Zarka.'
  • Comes as Israeli intelligence have suggested that a return to compliance with the JCPOA may be Israel's best interests.
  • The Jerusalem Post: 'The absence of an Iran deal could spell more imminent nuclear danger for Israel and its allies, intelligence sources have indicated to The Jerusalem Post, although both the governments of Benjamin Netanyahu and Naftali Bennett have opposed the deal.'
  • JP continues: 'Some in the intelligence and defense establishment view no deal as much worse than even a bad deal. The rationale from these sources is that Iran could jump to 90% weaponized uranium in a matter of weeks.'
