The federal interventor in Brasilia Ricardo Cappelli has stated that 'all security forces in Brasilia are mobilised for new protests expected for today', and that 'There is no chance of what happened on Sunday happening again.'
- Cappelli, who serves as Deputy Justice Minister in the gov't of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, was appointed by the president as the 'interventor' to handle security for the federal district of Brasilia following the riots that hit the Congress, supreme court, and presidential palace on 8 Jan. The governor of the federal district, a supporter of former President Jair Bolsonaro, has been removed from office for 90 days.
- The attorney general's office is warning that 'extremist groups' are preparing possible further action today 'for retaking power', resulting in a high alert level in the capital.
