Putin, Erdogan May Discuss Grain Deal; 1Q GDP Data on the Docket

  • Turkish President Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Putin may soon discuss the extension of the grain deal, which is set to expire on May 18, a source in Ankara told TASS on Wednesday. "The possibility of their phone talks is not ruled out, because, as you know, the grain deal expires tomorrow. It is vital to reach agreements on its extension," he said.
  • Russia’s fuel-oil suppliers are on track for record exports to China this month as smaller refineries in the Asian nation increase the amount they use for blending, Bloomberg report. Russian producers are set to sell over 350,000 barrels of fuel oil to China in May, according to data from the research firm Kpler.
  • Rosneft has expressed interest in building a greenfield refinery in India in a joint venture with domestic state-owned refiners, Economic Times reports, citing unidentified people familiar with the matter.
  • The Federal Statistics Service will report 1Q GDP today at 1700BST/1900 local time. A 2.1% contraction is the market consensus following a 2.7% drop prior. Weekly CPI data is also on the docket.
