Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that China and India may begin producing the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine, according to state news agency RIA.

  • The offer of allowing India and China to produce Sputnik V entrenches the view that Russia is seeking to develop the creation of an effective COVID-19 vaccine into a form of 'vaccine race', pitting the West against the East, rather than as a collaborative global effort.
