Putin Set for China Visit this Week with Energy on Agenda

Russian President Putin will meet Xi Jinping in China this week to deepen partnerships between the two nations with energy also set for discussions.

  • Putin is set to attend the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing on Oct. 17-18.
  • The heads of Russian energy giants Gazprom and Rosneft, Alexei Miller and Igor Sechin, will join Putin's during his visit according to Reuters sources.
  • Russia is aiming to try and sign a deal to send more gas to China with plans to build the Power of Siberia-2 pipeline, traversing Mongolia with an annual capacity of 50bcm.
  • It is not yet clear if a deal for the pipeline will be agreed.
