Q4 Current Account Balance Widens

  • The U.S. current account deficit widened by USD7.6 billion, or 4.2%, to -USD188.5 billion in Q4, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reported Tuesday.
  • That mainly reflected an expanded deficit on goods and a reduced surplus on services, the BEA said.
  • The Q3 deficit was revised to -USD180.9 billion (prev -USD 178.5 billion).
  • The current account deficit in 2020 widened by 34.8% to -USD647.2 billion. That's 3.1% of current dollar GDP, up from 2.2% in 2019.
