QatarEnergy Interested in Lebanese Gas Project

QatarEnergy is in discussions with the Lebanese government for a 30% stake in a Lebanese offshore exploration block – a negotiation which also involves TotalEnergies and ENI.

  • "We are in the process of discussing that with the government of Lebanon and the partners, Total and ENI for a participation of around 30% ownership of that exploration block," QatarEnergy CEO Saad al-Kaabi said.
  • "In due course when we get that basically finalised as an agreement, and we sign that agreement, we will announce it." he said.
  • Eastern Mediterranean gas discoveries could form a major source of European gas supply in the future. The prospects in the region look more promising as agreements have recently been made delineating maritime borders while others appear to be progressing in the right direction.
