Ramaphosa Denies Unlawful Activity Related To Phala Phala Scandal

SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa denied any unlawful activity surrounding the Phala Phala scandal in his response to the panel advising parliament on whether there are grounds for launching impeachment proceedings against him.

  • "I respectfully submit that all of the ‘charges’ I have been called to answer are without any merit. In addition to the ‘charges’, several baseless allegations are made against me in the documents handed over to the panel as set out in the bundle provided to me," Ramaphosa wrote in his response attached to the panel's report and seen by the Daily Maverick.
  • The panel handed its report to the National Assembly Speaker this morning and the document will be made public this evening. Lawmakers will discuss it on December 6. Following the debate, they will vote on whether to take further action.
