Reaction To Pension Reforms Could Put Macron On Back Foot In Years Ahead

The massive and on occasion violent reaction of over one million French citizens on 23 March to President Emmanuel Macron's pension reforms puts the president on the back foot, potentially damaging his ability to legislate effectively over the remaining four years of his presidency. The French Interior Ministry estimates that on 23 March: 1.08mn protesters took to the streets across France, 903 acts of arson took place in Paris, 457 people were arrested across the country, and 441 policemen were injured in the line of duty.
