Reducing Wildfires Enable Recovery in Canadian Production

NATURAL GAS

Canadian natural gas production has seen a recovery in recent days as cooler weather and precipitation have helped reduced disruption from wildfires in Alberta.

  • An estimated 51 active wildfires were burning in Alberta on 26 May down from 90 just over one week ago according to Alberta's ArcGIS Wildfire Status dashboard.
  • Canadian gas production has increased from 15.6bcf/d earlier this month to the highest since early May to an estimated 17.5bcf/d on 26 May according to S&P Global.
  • Production continues to trend about 1bcf/d, or roughly 5%, below its prior year-to-date average of around 18.5bcf/d.
  • The restoration of some production has enabled exports to the US to rebound back over 5bcf/d having fallen to just 3.9bcf/d 7 May.
