REFINING: US Refiners Recover After Hurricane but at Reduced Rates Yesterday

Six oil refineries in Louisiana began recovering after Hurricane Francine passed, Reuters sources said, but multiple facilities were operating at reduced rates, according to EIA late yesterday.

  • Total refining capacity of around 3mb/d was running at reduced rates, EIA said.
  • Exxon Mobil said facilities are operating as normal with little significant damage at its 522.5kb/d Baton Rouge refinery, Louisiana, Reuters said. Refinery's production was approaching maximum output on Thursday morning after cutting to as low as 20% of its capacity during the storm.
  • Shell’s Norco, Louisiana, refinery continues to assess the damage affecting the 40kb/d hydrocracker on Thursday morning, sources said.
  • PBF Energy's 190,000-bpd Chalmette, Louisiana, refinery was operating normally on Thursday.
  • Marathon Petroleum has declined to discuss the status of its 597kb/d Garyville, Louisiana refinery.
