RENEWABLES: Renewables Account for 57% of Spanish Output Over Oct 2023-Sept 2024

RENEWABLES

Around 57% of the power generated in Spain has come from renewables over Oct 2023-Sept 2024, with output surpassing 50% in each month, data from the Association of Renewable Energy Companies show.

  • Hydro output surged by 67.5% on year due to abundant resources, while photovoltaic generation increased by 22.3%, securing third place behind wind and nuclear.
  • And even adjusting for an exceptionally wet year, over 54% of electricity generation would still be renewable.
  • Additionally, the association emphasised that commitments to electrification and storage will be needed to further integrate renewables.
  • Spain is targeting 81% of electricity generation to be renewable by 2030, with targets of 76GW of PV, 62GW for wind, 4.8GW of thermal solar and 1.4 GW for biomass capacity.
