POWER: Renewables to Reach a Share of 56% of Spanish Power Mix in 2024

Renewable energy will account for 56% of the Spanish electricity generation mix in 2024, 6 percentage points higher on the year, preliminary data from Red Electrica showed.

  • Renewable generation is on track to rise by 11% on the year in 2024, exceeding 149TWh, a new record high.
  • Wind power in Spain is expected to account for 23% of the generation mix, followed by nuclear power with 19%.
  • Solar PV output is estimated to reach a share of 17% of the power mix this year with output at around 45TWh.
  • Hydropower generation is seen to reach a share of 13% this year.
  • Power CO2 emissions are expected to drop to a record low this year with a 16.4% drop on the year.
  • Power demand in Spain is seen to be 1% higher on the year at 248TWh in 2024. Adjusted for working ours and temperatures – demand would have been 1.6% higher on the year.
