     CONSUMER PRICE INDEX
     The Consumer Price Index rose 1.4% year over year in July compared with a
1.5% rise in June. The July result was below a MNI survey median forecast for a
1.6% rise.
     Food prices fell 1.1% y/y in July -- the sixth consecutive decline
following a 1.2% y/y drop in June. 
     Nonfood prices rose 2.0% year over year in July compared with a 2.2% rate
posted in June. 
     The CPI rose 0.1% m/m last month after a 0.2% drop in June. It is the first
rebound after three consecutive months of fall. 
     PRODUCER PRICE INDEX
     The Producer Price Index rose 5.5% year over year in July compared with a
MNI survey median forecast of 5.6% and matching June's rate. July is the 11th
consecutive month the PPI rate has been in positive territory since it exited
negative territory in September 2016.
     On a month-over-month basis the PPI rose 0.2% in July compared with a 0.2%
drop the month before. July witnessed the PPI's first positive growth after four
consecutive months of month-over-month falls.
