Robust activity in November suggests a hefty 3.0% m/m fall in sales 
volumes in December would be needed for retail sales not to exert a 
positive force on GDP growth in the final quarter of 2017. Sales volumes 
were up 1.1% in November, the highest since April, with that of 
household goods, and electrical goods in particular, steering the 
increased activity. Though "an element" of the festive promotions would 
have been caught by seasonal adjustment factors, the ever-changing 
nature of the phenomenon (specifically in terms of promotion duration) 
has made it "challenging" for the ONS said a statistician. October's set 
of numbers, both total and ex-fuel, were upgraded owing to the late 
arrival of data from food stores.
