Review Out Today, Treasurer Chalmers & RBA Governor Lowe To Hold Press Conferences

RBA

Australia Treasurer Secretary Chalmers will release the findings of the RBA Review today. It is expected that the Treasurer will accept the 51 recommendations from the review panel, which is tilted 'An RBA Fit For The Future'.

  • The proposed changes have been discussed in local media already, including changing the board structure to two separate boards, one for monetary policy and one for governance. Such a change will be required to pass Federal parliament.
  • Other changes include the likelihood of fewer policy meetings, along with regular RBA press conferences by the Governor to explain policy decisions. It is also expected that the current 2-3% inflation target will be retained.
  • Treasurer Chalmers will hold a press conference, while RBA Governor Lowe will hold a sperate one later at 12pm AEST (can be viewed at this link).
  • The Treasurer will also announce 2 new board members after Wendy Craik and Mark Barnaba decided not to seek reappointment.
  • It's unlikely Lowe's future as RBA Governor will be announced/determined today, with previous reports indicating Chalmers would make a decision around mid-year.
