A rising river level at Kaub on the Rhine will allow barges to carry larger cargoes of diesel to inland Europe in the coming days.

  • Vessels wanting to haul diesel-type fuel through Kaub can currently only carry about 1,100 tons, less than half their full capacity, Riverlake ship-broker Mitchell van der Hoeven said.
  • That should rise to about 2,200 tons early Saturday, when the measured water level is forecast to jump, he said.
  • The measured water level at Kaub was as low as 91cm earlier on Tuesday, well under half the 10-year seasonal average. The measured level is forecast to rise to 194cm early on Saturday morning.
