Ringgit Falters, Malaysia Orders Sinovac Recipients To Get Boosters

Tailwinds have emerged for spot USD/MYR after Thursday's slump. The rate last operates +52 pips at MYR4.2125, despite yesterday's greenback weakness.

  • Bulls look to a move through Dec 15 high of MYR4.2387, which would bring Nov 26 cycle high of MYR4.2490 into view. Bears need a fall through Dec 1 low of MYR4.2000 before taking aim at the 100-DMA at MYR4.1905.
  • Health Min Khairy announced that the recipients of Sinovac vaccine jabs will need to take a booster shot by February to retain their vaccination certificates and associated privileges. He added that large New Year's Eve celebrations will not be permitted.
  • According to Malaysiakini sources, some factions within UMNO are pushing for a dissolution of parliament and a snap general election. This reportedly became apparent during the latest UMNO Supreme Council meeting on Dec 8.
  • Meanwhile, the Borneo state of Sarawak will hold a delayed state election tomorrow. The field of candidates is unprecedentedly crowded, but campaigning has been muted owing to Covid-19 rules.
