Road Blockades Fall Following Bolsonaro Attempt To Ease Disruptions

  • President Bolsonaro attempted to ease social disruption in Brazil, calling on his protesting supporters to dismantle hundreds of roadblocks, claiming that these do harm to the economy and aren’t a legitimate form of demonstrating.
    • The president took to Twitter on Wednesday to say that holding protests elsewhere “is very welcome, it’s part of our democracy”.
  • The number of road blocks has fallen to 86 from nearly 170 a day ago, the federal highway police posted on Twitter early Thursday.
