Romania to Invest in Pipeline for Black Sea Neptun Deep Project

Romanian gas producers OMV Petrom and Romgaz have reserved pipeline capacity from 2026 to 2042 with operator Transgaz to transport gas from the Neptun Deep project in the Black Sea.

  • The project is to use a new pipeline expected to be built by Transgaz to bring the gas to shore at a cost of about €500m according to Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca.
  • Production at Neptun Deep holds an estimated reserve of 100bcm is likely to start production in 2027.
  • The gas producers are expected to announce a final investment decision in the Neptun project around the middle of the year. The project is estimated to cost €4bn and produce at least 6bcm of gas per year.
