Ruling On Interdiction Of Speaker Mapisa-Nqakula’s Arrest Expected Today

  • The High Court will today rule on Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula’s interdict of her arrest. She remains on special leave after law enforcement agents raided her home as part of a corruption investigation. The Speaker is not on the list of ANC candidates for the upcoming elections, but her case is still problematic for the ruling party, which is fighting to keep its parliamentary majority.
  • In the lead-up to the long weekend, South Africa's Electoral Commission upheld objections to ex-President Jacob Zuma's bid to run in elections, due to the fact that he spent time in prison.
  • Absa will release South Africa's Manufacturing PMI for March at 10:00BST/11:00SAST. Consensus looks for a slip to 51.3 from 51.7 recorded in February.
  • The South African Revenue Service (SARS) is expected to release the preliminary tax-revenue outcome for the year through March 31 around noon local time.
  • The National Treasury will today sell ZAR1.25bn of bonds maturing in 2031 and ZAR1.25bn of bonds maturing in 2037.
