Ruling Party Seeks To Go On Offensive In Election Campaign

POLAND

Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin told Polsat News that the decision has not been made on whether ruling Law and Justice party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski will return to Cabinet, but he would support such a solution "at a time of full mobilisation."

  • PAP newswire reported that Kaczynski attended yesterday's meeting of Law and Justice parliamentary caucus to mobilise and discipline lawmakers ahead of the upcoming general election.
  • During yesterday's meeting, Kaczynski reportedly announced a "reset" of the election campaign, which may involve personal changes among campaign staff and possibly in Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki's Cabinet.
  • Law and Justice's MPs told Onet that there is a perception that the party is on the back foot. Kaczynski told lawmakers that the party can still win the election but needs to go on the offensive.
  • The ruling party's Secretary General, Krzysztof Sobolewski, told TVP1 that today's meeting of Law and Justice's top brass (expected around 16:30BST/17:30CEST) will not bring any breakthroughs, although earlier reports suggested that the party could greenlight Kaczynski's return to Cabinet.
