​Ruling Party Set to Approve Sweden’s NATO Accession Bid Next Week

  • Hungary's ruling Fidesz party is set to approve the long-delayed ratification of Sweden’s NATO accession bid on Feb 26, Mate Kocsis, the Fidesz group leader, said on his Facebook page this morning. As a reminder, Prime Minister Orban had already during his SONA on Saturday that the vote was likely to come at the start of parliament’s spring session.
  • The Fidesz and Christian Democratic parties will hold a group meeting ahead of the spring session of parliament, on Wednesday and Thursday, where they will decide on their candidate for the new head of state, Mate Kocsis said as per MTI.
  • Looking ahead, average gross wage data (Est: +13.8% y/y; Prior: +13.9%) and unemployment rate figures (Est: 4.3%; Prior: 4.2%) are the highlights of the week on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
