Russia Black Sea Ports Considered Safe: Marine Insurer Gard

Russian Black Sea ports are still likely to be considered as safe, despite the risks, Marie Kelly, defence global vice president at marine insurer Gard, wrote in a post on its website.

  • Determining this is the fact that there is still substantial trade out of Russia and no commercial vessel has been damaged, she said.
  • However, she added that the situation remains volatile, and any assessment/quote only holds validity for 24 hours, shorter than the previous 48-hour time period.
  • Russia briefly halted traffic to Novorossiysk after a Ukrainian drone attack, although it didn’t report damage to key infrastructure and oil loadings continued.
