Russia Leans on Sanctioned Oil Vessels

As of 13 December, 88 unique tankers which have loaded Russian crude/product (excl. CPC Blend) since March 2022 previously carried Iranian and/or Venezuelan crude/product, according to Vortexa data.

  • The 88 tankers have over 260 Russian oil liftings since March, with 14 of these tankers currently in-transit carrying either Urals, ESPO or fuel oil.
  • The logistics of carrying Russian oil from the Baltics are also reflected in this shift, as 85% of the tankers which have switched to Russian trade are Aframax and Suezmax classes. The remaining 15% include VLCCs from the Atlantic trade and smaller sized tankers.
